Horticulture is an exciting new addition to our curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. With a school garden, polytunnel and a purpose built outside classroom, our pupils have the opportunity to study both inside the classroom and practically.
Our pupils experience a spiral curriculum, learning about sustainability and environmental science. They explore soil science, seeds and propagation, cuttings, environmental gardening, garden design and maintaining gardens in all years.
In practical lessons, pupils have the chance to take cuttings, plant a variety of vegetables and ornamental plants and maintain the beds.
Not only will pupils experience our own garden, but also visit prestigious gardens and have the opportunity to speak to those within the Horticulture industry to gain valuable insights into the types of careers on offer.
We now offer a Level 1 City and Guilds qualification in Practical Horticulture Skills.
