Sixth Form 16-19 Tuition Catch Up Funding

Folkestone Academy Sixth Form will be accessing the unique 16-19 tuition funding to support catch up for eligible pupils. As 67% of Year 12 pupils and 66% of Year 13 qualify we intend to run tuition catch up across a number of subjects between January and June, plus some earlier targeted intervention for Year 12 and SEND pupils.

    1. Subject Tuition: This will be staffed by internal staff providing small group tuition for groups between 3-5 to support these pupils in catching up work that they had missed and improving other areas. This will take place at the end of the school day. This will include Maths and English GCSE, but also KS5 subject areas where teachers have identified weakness in our qualifying pupils. We will allocate 80% of funding for this strand - which will include both Year 13 pupils where they have missing content and Year 12 pupils where teachers identify they have knowledge and skills gaps from Year 11. We plan to run this from January 2021 onwards. Pupils who haven’t previously attained a 5 in Maths or English at 16 will be targeted with priority given to those who didn’t achieve a 4.

    1. Year 12 study skills: This will be run as small group study skills to support eligible pupils in making the jump to KS5 from KS4 by developing their academic study skills to support their independent learning. We will allocate 10% of funding to this strand. We will aim to start this as soon as possible. Pupils who haven’t previously attained a 5 in Maths or English at 16 will be targeted with priority given to those who didn’t achieve a 4.

    1. SEND support: We will work with the Director of SEND to develop a programme of support and intervention for pupils with SEND. This will help the transition to KS5 which can be difficult in a normal year but particularly this year. We will allocate 10% of funding to this strand. We will aim to start this as soon as possible. Pupils who haven’t previously attained a 5 in Maths or English at 16 will be targeted with priority given to those who didn’t achieve a 4.
