Careers Advice & Support

Glassworks -14528

One of the questions that both teachers and parents regularly ask young people is “what do you want to do when you leave school?”. Sometimes we can be frustrated by the answer “I don’t know” but we appreciate that it is even more frustrating to be in a position where you really don’t know what you want to do.

Don’t worry; it’s perfectly normal not to know what you want to do. Even when you do decide what you want to do there is a good chance that you’ll change your mind later on. As an Academy we want to do all we can to support you and inform you during your time with us and a big part of this support is careers advice.
As a Folkestone Academy student you are entitled to as much careers advice as you feel you need; you can request advice at any time and for any reason. You also have three tiers of advice and support to make use of, as is outlined below.

Tier 1

Tier 2

Tier 3

You will always have regular mentoring meetings with your form tutor and they will naturally take a real interest in your plans for the future and how we, as an Academy, can help you to achieve them.

Your tutors will be able to give you broad advice and guidance on the general options and routes open to you.

Request a meeting with the Academy’s full-time careers advisor, Mr Johnston, at any time. Mr Johnston will be able to support you in slightly more detail than your tutors will by providing you with information on careers, work in the local area, and key resources.

Mr Johnston can also support you by providing you with guidance and support when applying for other schools, colleges, universities, or employment. All you have to do is ask for a meeting!

We are dedicated to providing all of our students with access to impartial and expert advice on careers and opportunities. To help us to achieve this – and to help you to achieve your goals – we have recently entered a partnership with CXK.

By requesting an appointment you will be able to meet with an expert, impartial professional careers advisor within a few weeks. Members of the CXK team can help you to understand what options are available to you and will help you to draw up an action plan to achieve your ambitions.

We hope that these three tiers of support will provide you with all of the careers advice and guidance you need, when you need it. However, if there is something else you need it is important to us that you tell us; we want to ensure that we fulfil our commitment to support our students in achieving their ambitions.

You can request an appointment with Mrs Tibbles or CXK at any time by talking to your Head of House.
