Sports and Leisure Industry careers event

The first Think Forward Sports and Leisure Industry careers event was held at Three Hills Sports Park on Thursday 3rd May with the aim of inspiring young people in Kent to take their interest and passion for sport to the next level.

Sixteen Folkestone Academy students from Year 9 and 10, some of whom are from the Think Forward programme joined over thirty Think Forward students from schools across Kent in coming together for this event.

October 2017

Below is a brief overview of October's half-term Think Forward events and insight days accessed by Folkestone Academy students:

Army Careers Event held at The Marsh Academy

Year 10 and 11 students who have an interest in a career in the armed forces took part in a half-day event delivered by the Royal Marines comprising a series of physical and mental challenges requiring them to demonstrate team work and problem-solving skills. Students were then provided with a Q&A session with serving soldiers to discover more about a career in the army before a tug-of-war against soldiers which the students won, but not without a battle!

The National Theatre

Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 with an interest in the performing arts industry attended an insight day at the National Theatre on London’s Southbank where they met with Think Forward students from our London schools programmes. The day was a fantastically colourful introduction to the many and varied career opportunities available within the theatre industry. Students attended a carousel of small workshops in lighting, sound, set design and special effects, costume and make-up, met the cast and crew for a full backstage tour before a final Q&A session with a range of departments. A day to remember and one which has significantly boosted students cultural capital!
