Academy to Host Schools’ Gymnastics Competition

The Folkestone Academy is to play host to an exciting new gymnastics competition in 2017 just for Secondary Schools.

The competition is being organised in partnership with Dover Gymnastics Club and will take place on the afternoon of Monday 27th March 2017.

The competition is open to students in Years 7 to 10 from any secondary school and is completely FREE to enter.

The competition will follow the Key Step criteria developed by British Gymnastics and will involve students competing in teams of up to four people on both the Floor and Vault.

Medals will be presented to the teams who finish in first, second and third place in each school year group. And the team who achieves the highest overall score will also be presented with a trophy to take back to their school.

Jon Green, Director and Vice Chair of Dover Gymnastics Club said: ‘We wanted to give secondary school pupils the opportunity to compete because at present most schools gymnastics events are just for primary school children.

‘This has been made possible thanks to the co-operation of The Folkestone Academy who are hosting the competition and helping to organise and run it.’

Miss McLaughlin, PE Teacher at The Folkestone Academy said: ‘We’re looking forward to working with Dover Gymnastics Club on the schools competition.’

This competition will be advertised nearer the time and all pupils in Years 7 and 10 are welcome to participate.
