Ski Trip 2019 Letter Home

Dear Parent/Carer,

Ski Trip to Prato Nevoso/Artesina, Italy – January 2019 – Term Time

Staying at Hotel Marguareis

I am pleased to announce our plans for the Ski trip taking place during term time in January 2019 with the exact dates of travel to be confirmed upon interest. The Academy has enjoyed six extremely successful skiing holidays and the event is now a regular addition to the school calendar. Due to 2019 ski trip being ran in term time we can currently only offer the trip to students in year 7-10 and students in year 12. In order to bring the cost of the trip down we have decided to move from half term to term time which will in turn mean the resorts will be quitter and more affordable.

This trip is ideal for all students from beginner to advance skier with lessons and 130km of Piste to cater for all abilities. Please note that this is an all-inclusive trip with everything included, except spending money.

Further information regarding the location and hotel can be found here.

We will be travelling to the wonderful Italian resort of Prato Nevoso/ Artesina, where students will receive a warm, friendly and excellent ski experience with a ski out resort. The main ski lift is right on the doorstep of the hotel which offers amazing views of Prato Nevoso/ Artesina and the pistes which will be skied daily by our students. The hotel is situated in a lovely location which is close to other amenities and small villages which we plan to visit during our stay.

We have negotiated a fantastic deal as a school group and the cost for the week is £770.00 which is our cheapest trip yet! The Price of the trip includes the following:

Ø  Return executive coach travel or flight (number dependant)

Ø  Return ferry or tunnel crossing.

Ø  Full medical and travel insurance cover

Ø  6 nights full board accommodation including lunches

Ø  6 days hire of skis, boots, helmet and poles

Ø  6 x 5 hours of ski tuition

Ø  6 day full lift pass

Ø  In resort representation and 24 hour emergency service

Ø  Approved safety management system

Ø  Ski breakage insurance

Ø  Piste Closure Insurance

Ø  Full evening entertainment package

Ø  Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

I understand that this is a large sum of money to pay out and I have therefore arranged for the Retail shop to administer a payment plan. If you would like to reserve a place for your son/daughter/ward on the trip please return the reply slip along with a £100.00 non-refundable deposit to the Retail Shop by Friday 9th March 2018. Please be aware that payment deadlines must be met (further details will follow about this) as we are required to pay periodic non-refundable payments to the ski company.

I will write to all Parents/Carers of students involved in due course to inform you of who is taking part and the staff supervising. I will also include in that letter advice about clothing and preparation, documentary information and the information about the parents evening we will be holding nearer the time. At the parents evening I will be inviting a ski clothing company, who have many years’ experience in cost effective school ski weeks, to come along and give advice about clothing and other equipment that may be desirable for your son/daughter/ward.

Many students are interested in this trip and for this reason I must point out that the places will be available on a first come, first served basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to experience breath-taking scenery and the cultural charm of an Italian ski resort. Students will also be encouraged to develop their speaking language skills whilst there. There are further benefits to a residential outward bound trip such as coping with being away from parents for an extended duration, the cultural experience that a foreign country offers, and the obvious benefits for each child’s social development.

The Academy reserve the right to withdraw a student’s place if they deviate seriously from the positive structure our behaviour policy provides. In this case monies will be returned to Parents/ Carers in line with the holiday company’s deposit structure.

Please note that students will require a valid Passport and European Health Insurance Card for this trip.

In the meantime if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at school (jamie.platts@folkestoneacademy.com) and I will hopefully be able to provide you with the answers.

(Please note: Where the student has committed to a trip, and the Academy has entered into a financial agreement with an external supplier for such a trip, the Academy cannot refund monies which those suppliers will not refund, the Academy is acting as an agent in buying the trip for the students)

Yours faithfully

Jamie Platts
